A BOOK CLUB WITH A DIFFERENCE
A place for conversation, reflection & shared discovery.
The Book Club began as a small, informal gathering of friends who simply wanted to talk about books. But over time, it has grown into something richer: a space for conversation, reflection, disagreement, laughter, memory, and shared discovery. Our intent has never been to run a formal literary forum. The idea is more personal and, in many ways, more meaningful. Each member brings a book, an article, a poem, a memoir, a graphic novel, or sometimes even a podcast or personal writing that has stayed with them. From there, the discussion naturally expands—into history, politics, music, identity, migration, family, society, Bengal, India, America, and the many worlds we carry within us. We meet at a roughly monthly cadence, usually gathering in the evening over tea, snacks, wine, and food that have now become almost as important as the books themselves. What began with a handful of people has steadily grown into a warm circle of regular and occasional participants—Tista, Tathagata, Raili, Prasun, Shyamal Da, Pinky Di, Sharmila, Arindam, Prasenjit, and others who join when they can. The strength of the group lies in this mix of voices. Some read fiction, some lean toward history, some bring music, memoir, politics, poetry, or lived experience. That variety is exactly what keeps the conversations alive.
We are taking this forward because the Book Club has become more than a meeting. It has become a habit of thinking together. In a time when attention is fragmented and conversations often become shallow or hurried, this gives us a reason to slow down, read, listen, argue gently, and learn from each other. It also gives us a record of our shared intellectual life—what we read, what moved us, what provoked us, and what we chose to remember. We would also like to invite others who may be interested in joining this journey. You do not have to be a “serious reader” in any formal sense. You only need curiosity, openness, and the willingness to share what has moved you, puzzled you, angered you, amused you, or made you think. Bring a book you loved, a book you struggled with, a poem you cannot forget, or simply come to listen. Very often, the best conversations begin with one unexpected observation. The purpose, therefore, is simple: keep the circle alive, keep the conversations open, and keep welcoming more voices. The books are the starting point, but the real value lies in the community that has formed around them—and in the new voices that will help shape where it goes next.
BOOK CLUB MOMENTS
Books bring us together. Conversation keeps us there.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
Not a formal forum — a habit of thinking together.
01
Bring What Moved You
A book is only one starting point. Members may bring an article, poem, memoir, graphic novel, podcast or personal writing that stayed with them.
02
Monthly Evenings
The group meets at a roughly monthly cadence, usually in the evening over tea, snacks, wine and food — all part of the warmth of the gathering.
03
Many Voices
Fiction, history, music, memoir, politics, poetry and lived experience all enter the room. That mix of voices is what keeps the conversations alive.
04
Thinking Together
The Book Club creates a reason to slow down, read, listen, argue gently and learn from one another — while building a record of a shared intellectual life.
WHO CAN JOIN?
Curiosity matters more than credentials.
You do not have to be a “serious reader” in any formal sense. You only need curiosity, openness and the willingness to share what moved you, puzzled you, angered you, amused you or made you think. Bring something you loved, something you struggled with, or simply come to listen.
THE PURPOSE
Keep the circle alive.
Keep the conversations open and keep welcoming more voices. The books are the starting point, but the real value lies in the community that has formed around them — and in the new voices that will shape where it goes next.
INTERESTED IN THE BOOK CLUB?
Bring something that made you think.
